Apple II Cassette Software

About these files
These programs were transferred from the original cassettes via a PC. The WAV files below were decoded using CiderPress and stored on standard DOS 3.3 disk images. The images are all set up to run on any 64K Apple with AppleSoft BASIC in ROM. Integer BASIC will be loaded from disk into the language card. The recordings themselves have not been tested with an actual Apple II and may not be usable.

16K Startrek

This is the early version of Startrek shipped with 16K Apples in 1977.

Disk Image: 16k-startrek.dsk.gz [25KB]
Cassette Audio: 16k-startrek.wav.gz [WAV, 2.8MB] or 16k-startrek.flac [FLAC, 2.2MB]

Startrek

A later version of Startrek, slightly modified from the earlier cassette. This comes from the Apple "Startrek/Starwars" cassette, part number A2T0002X.

Disk Image: startrek.dsk.gz [25KB]
Cassette Audio: startrek.wav.gz [WAV, 8.4MB] or startrek.flac [FLAC, 7.1MB]

The Starwars program from the "Startrek/Starwars" cassette mentioned above.

Disk Image: starwars.dsk.gz [21KB]
Cassette Audio: starwars.wav.gz [WAV, 11MB] or starwars.flac [FLAC, 8.1MB]

Breakout

Woz's BASIC version of the Atari arcade game requires just 4K of RAM.

Disk Image: breakout.dsk.gz [18KB]
Cassette Audio: breakout.wav.gz [WAV, 2.7MB] or breakout.flac [FLAC, 1.2MB]

Color Demos

Some demos which show off the Apple II's low-resolution color graphics capabilities. This came from the same tape as Breakout.

Cassette Audio: color-demos.wav.gz [WAV, 2.8MB] or color-demos.flac [FLAC, 2.1MB]

Hires Demo

Demos of the hi-res graphics modes. This uses a bit of machine code in addition to an Integer BASIC program. It comes from the same tape as the "16K Startrek" and would have shipped with machines having 16K RAM or more, just enough to use hi-res graphics. Also notable, this program uses only 4 of the hi-res colors due to the limitations of the earliest version of the Apple II main board.

Disk Image: hires-demo.dsk.gz [19KB]
Cassette Audio: hires-demo.wav.gz [WAV, 6.7MB] or hires-demo.flac [FLAC, 4.9MB]

Disk-O-Tape
